Judo Sundsvall is located in the northern part of Sweden, about 320 kilometres from any other big judo club. JS has around 650 members, 25 of them are black belts. Chief instructor,
Wolfgang Biedron, 7th. Dan, coaches the many members with help of around 35 instructors – many of whom are teenage judokas working voluntarily.
JS has a winning philosophy that can be coined by the phrase –”JUDO FOR EVERYONE – IT’S NOT JUST WORDS!” The aim of the club is that EVERYONE should be able to practise judo. Whether they want to have fun and meet friends, improve fitness or practise hard and go for it in elite level judo, JS has suitable groups for everyone:
-JUDO PLAY – From 5 yrs upwards the training aims to improve coordination and special awareness.
-FUN JUDO – For kids and teens that enjoy judo, the class mixes games and fitness work.
-TECHNICAL JUDO – For judo lovers, this training class follows a fairly traditional style.
-IPPON JUDO – For people who like tougher training. While children in ”Fun Judo” like to play, children in this group like to train hard and compete.
-LARGE AND SMALL – Parents and children train together.
-SPECIAL – For people with special needs. The exercises are adapted to each individual to improve coordination, mobility and push individual limits.
-ADULT EXERCISING – This class is for non competitive adults and tries to improve physical health, agility, mobility and fitness levels through judo.
-ADULT ELITE – For people who want to compete.
The main purpose when training younger children is not to create great judoka, but instead to bring up great children.
We are proud to say that children and youths will always find judo useful, even if they stop doing judo after only half a year of training.
The basic values and goals which define how the club is run are:
The most important thing is that the children/youths have fun during training.
It is important that the instructors enjoy what they do, especially since their work is voluntarily.
Also we aim to ensure that the judoka reach the goals set up for their training group.
